Arts in Action is a Non-Profit Arts Council made up of art enthusiasts as well as artists and professionals, all of whom volunteer their time and who wish to develop and promote the arts in the community and create a strong culture in the county.
We sponsor workshops, presentations, concerts, and more to help provide education as well as cultivate a rich appreciation for the arts.
In order to provide Riverton and the surrounding area with cultural opportunities, Arts in Action was founded in 1966. The community volunteers who have supported the organization since its creation joined the original members, who were CWC faculty members. Members who market and support several arts projects that benefit the entire County, as well as those who chair various fundraising initiatives, make up the membership.
Early work in the community included a successful art fundraiser called Fords and Fashions, using local performers to showcase the new Ford lines. Thousands of dollars were raised by the events and the funds were used to purchase artwork for an art collection, as well as scholarships for college arts students.
A number of events featuring local talent have been organized by Arts in Action, such as the monthly musicals in private houses, the bicentennial-supporting Evening with the Arts, local artists and melodramas, and the municipality of Riverton's Diamond Jubilee Celebration. In order to rehabilitate the community grand piano in time for the 943-seat Robert A. Peck Theatre and Arts Center's grand opening, the members actively participated in the 1983 fundraising campaign for the proposed CWC art center.
Principal fundraisers we have are the Day in the Park (42nd annual will take place in 2024) and Winter Art Fair (50th annual took place in 2023). These fundraisers help support our programming such as Missoula Children's Theatre, artist residencies in area schools, as wells as supporting live performances in the community.
